Young Minds Leading a Big Change in The Community
At TIS, we believe that even our youngest learners can make a difference in the world. That's why we established the Kindergarten Winter Funderland, an annual event aimed at empowering children and instilling in them a sense of global responsibility. Now in its 5th edition, this gathering sparks joy in the hearts of all who attend, bringing families together to embrace community and immerse themselves in the spirit of this giving season.
Kindergarten Winter Funderland is seamlessly aligned with our School’s curriculum, intricately connecting with various units of inquiry from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through engaging with units such as "Who We Are," "How We Express Ourselves," "Sharing the Planet," and "How We Organize Ourselves," children explore essential concepts and develop valuable skills that will accompany them throughout their lives. They dive into mathematical concepts such as shapes, measurements, patterning and colors, while also embracing their artistic abilities through different art mediums, creating brilliant canvases and artwork that reflects their creativity and imagination.
One of the highlights of the Winter Funderland is having children see how their creations help make a difference. Their artwork is proudly displayed and auctioned off in a silent auction, with the funds raised dedicated to various causes. This year, donations were allocated to the Activist in Residence programme “Guardians of Gabon'', actively supporting the conservation efforts and protection of Gabon's natural treasures. There were also significant contributions to the Volunteer Development Children's Association (VDCA) by donating books, ensuring that schools in Cambodia gain access to valuable reading materials. And finally, essential supplies such as diapers, baby bottles, and baby cereal were donated to Cradle of Hope, a Macao-based organization devoted to caring for children in need. Thank you to our incredible parents for being role models for our students, helping to bring joy to the less fortunate.
The Kindergarten Funderland is nothing short of a magical event, continuously nurturing compassionate, globally-minded future leaders. Here, our students embrace the knowledge that their actions hold the power to make a significant difference. They become catalysts for change, choosing to do good and create a positive impact in our global society.
